Situated at an altitude of over 15 416 ft., at the heart of the Andes cordillera, the Paso de San Francisco is a pass between the province of Catamarca and the Atacama region in Chile. 
From Argentina, following the RN60 road, we arrived at Paso de San Francisco from Chaschuil Valley not far from the pretty Laguna Verde. All along the road leading from Argentina to Chile, between snow-capped mountains, multi-coloured lagunes and arid deserts, we passed through sumptuous Andean landscapes. A four-wheel drive is almost indispensable as the roads are very steep. Mind, if you are prone to travel and/or mountain sickness, do not forget to take along some medication (remember, coke leaves are forbidden in Argentina and Chile). 
All along the way, do not forget to lift your eyes to the sky and the earth, as Andean animals will cross your path.
