Firstly, you have to go through the Corinth canal I was surprised by the depth of the canal and its small width. It is just 25 metres wide with 80 metre high walls and 6km long. The submersible bridge for vehicles is most impressive. There are often boats going through. The largest boats have to be towed. The work was started in the first century under Nero and was taken up again in 1882. Eleven years later the canal was finished. It is fascinating to think that the Peloponnese became an island after this canal was built saving boats from a 400 km detour. It is a must-see destination during <a href="/greece/">a visit to Greece.</a> Acrocorinth is a site on top of a cliff high above the region. The view is outstanding You can see the sea, olive groves and vineyards. The grapes from Corinth are small and black. At the top, there is a very pretty temple to Aphrodite.
