Thorong Phedi's refuge is really very pleasant. There is quite a climb to get there, in a setting that is bare and stony; bring along enough water! The arrival up there is crazy. The common room is heated, it is possible to plug in your camera or MP4 and you can even enjoy an applestrudel with funky background music. I really was not expecting this at such an altitude!
When you plan your trekking itinerary around the Annapurna peaks, you will see that before the culminating point of the hike there are two camp points: Thorong Phedi or Thorong High Camp, about 1000 feet higher up. Even though I got there quite early, I chose the first possibility. This meant an extra hour of walking the next day (to reach the pass at 17769 feet), but I preferred to ensure I got a better night's rest in a less high and less cold spot.
 I must add that I visited Nepal before the earthquake of 2015, so it is possible that the place has since changed quite a bit.
